Robert McBride's daughter: 'Assaults' happen all the time
A case of assault was opened against Ipid head Robert McBride at the Norwood Police Station and is being investigated.
JOHANNESBURG – Robert McBride’s daughter has told Eyewitness News that the assault which allegedly took place last week Sunday was not an isolated incident.
The teenager claims that McBride beat her and tried to strangle her. He has denied the allegations
A case of assault was opened against the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head at the Norwood Police Station and is being investigated.
McBride’s daughter claims the incident was not the first time the Ipid head has assaulted her.
“It happens all the time. From the time I started living with him, almost every night, every second night... whenever he’s got a chance to argue with me or fight with me, he would end up hitting me, and not just like hiding... throwing me against things or banging my head into things or whatever.”
McBride denies he assaulted his daughter on 19 August and says he was merely admonishing her.
The teenager says she doesn’t want the assault case against her father to be covered up.
“I don’t want it to be swept under the carpet because of who he is or because people are too scared to speak out against him because he’s powerful.”
She insists she is not being used by her father’s opponents to taint his reputation.

“This stems from him hitting me on Sunday, it has nothing to do with his work. I’m not concerned about his reputation or his line of work. I’m concerned about what he did to me, anything along those lines, those accusations are untrue.”
The girl has given a detailed account of the incident, claiming that McBride punched her repeatedly in the face.
“And then at that stage, we were at the traffic lights and he turned right and he had both hands around my neck and strangled me and he’s like 'I’ll kill you, don’t tell me what to do or when to stop hitting you'.”
McBride’s daughter says she’s speaking out abuse the alleged abuse she has endured because her father has power and influence.
“People weren’t willing to help me because they know who he is and if I speak out about it in public, where everyone can see what I’m saying, and a docket can’t be interfered with or accidentally disappear or it goes through someone who’s maybe an ally of his.
“If it’s just me speaking and everyone hears me first hand, then my story gets out properly.”
Ipid believes the assault case is part of a crime intelligence operation to taint McBride’s reputation and remove him from office, but his daughter says this is not true.
