CAPE TOWN – The Hanover Park Civic Association is demanding the government urgently intervene against the scourge of gang violence.

The community-based group has invited residents to take part in a march later today in which a memorandum will be handed over to officers at the Philippi police station.

In the latest gang-related incident, 16-year-old Octavia Johannessen was killed by stray bullets during an alleged gang battle last week.

The Association’s Igshaan Nazier says they hope the change will come after today’s march.

“We’re not taking this monster of gangsters to drug lords, we’re taking it to government and we will persist in doing that.

“We’ll continue doing this so that we can come up with a constructive plan for Hanover Park and communities alike.”
