Jewish Board slams Andile Mngxitama’s tweet on Holocaust
The South African Jewish Board of Deputies says the tweet is demeaning and hurtful to survivors of the Holocaust.
The organisation says the tweet is demeaning and hurtful to survivors of the mass slaughter.
Twitter users have responded, saying the tweet is on the same footing as Western Cape Premier Helen Zille's statement on colonialism.
For those claiming the legacy of the holocaust is ONLY negative think about the lampshades and Jewish soap.— andile (@Mngxitama) August 24, 2017
But the Jewish Board of Deputies’ Wendy Kahn says they find no humour in his tweet.
“We don’t believe it’s a subject for humour and we think there is absolutely no justification for this kind of offensive speech.”
But the BLF leader says the tweet has fulfilled what he intended.
"To expose the systematic anti-blackness of the white community, including the Jewish people. They don’t care for the oppression of black people and so they are deeply unethical and evil."
The Jewish Board says it is looking at taking legal action against Mngxitama.
