CAPE TOWN - Nyanga community members will get a chance to run a R36 million housing construction project.

On Tuesday, construction of the 235 houses commenced in the area.

The community will be able to appoint a contractor of their choice, and they’ll manage the project as part of the City of Cape Town's People's Housing Process.

The city's Brett Herron explained: “The 235 houses will be built by the People's Housing Process, which is a community-led project. The community appoints a contractor and manages the project themselves via a support organisation.”

The construction will take approximately 14 months.
