CAPE TOWN - Metrorail Protection Services officials have nabbed a suspected cable thief at Nyanga Station.

The man was caught on Monday in possession of 15 meters of core cabling.

The rail service's Riana Scott said: “they arrested a 37-year-old male yesterday at Nyanga Station in possession of train core cabling. We handed him over to the Manenburg police for further processing.

Some Metrorail services have over the past few days been crippled by deliberate destruction equipment. Three track boxes were vandalised last Friday and on Saturday maintenance teams had to repair nine more.

Scott adds teams will continue to clamp down on vandals whose relentless attacks on infrastructure cause daily delays.
