CAPE TOWN – A security guard accused of murdering a South African woman in Mauritius is expected back in court on Tuesday.

The 55-year-old Sahib Meerhossen has been provisionally charged for the murder of executive Lara Rijs.

Rijs’s body was found in her security complex apartment last week. It’s believed that Rijs was stabbed to death.

Her friends began a search after she failed to show up for work. They discovered her lifeless body in her bed.

Mauritian police spokesperson, Shiva Coothen, says detectives require more time for the investigation.

“The police will obviously object the release on bail of the suspect given that the inquiry is not complete yet.”

Officials from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation say they expect an update from the South African Embassy in Mauritius today.
