Chamber of Mines says Zwane trying to undermine industry’s transformation
The Chamber of Mines has filed notice to interdict the third Mining Charter.
JOHANNESBURG - The Chamber of Mines says Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwnae is trying to undermine the credibility of the industry’s transformation journey.
The chamber served its replying affidavit at the High Court in Pretoria on Friday, in response to the answering affidavit delivered by Zwane earlier this month.
It approached the courts for a declaratory order around an interpretation of the charters on whether mining companies must have 26% black ownership.
The chamber has filed notice to interdict the third Mining Charter.
Spokesperson Charmane Russel said, “The unilateral development and implementation of the charter doesn’t serve the interests of South Africa. It will destroy investment, leading to job losses and damage the mining industry.”
