CAPE TOWN - A hearing into UK PR firm Bell Pottinger's conduct in South Africa was underway at a secret location in London.

It comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) lodged a complaint against the firm with the UK's Public Relations and Communications Association two months ago.

The party says leaked emails show Bell Pottinger tried to stir racial tension in South Africa through campaigns for the Gupta-owned Oakbay.

The DA's Phumzille van Damme would have opened the hearing with an oral summary of the complaint.

A Bell Pottinger representative would then respond to the allegations.

That would be followed by a round of questions by the members of the Public Relations and Communications Association's disciplinary Committee.

The DA would also host a picket outside the offices of Bell Pottinger in London this afternoon, where van Damme would address demonstrators.
