CAPE TOWN - A pupil has been stabbed at a Macassar school.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says three attackers stormed into a hall at Zandvliet High earlier this week and stabbed the grade 12 pupil.

Pupils were writing an exam at the time of the incident.

The pupil has since been discharged from hospital and is in a stable condition.

Jessica Shelver, the spokesperson for the Western Cape Education MEC, says: “On Thursday, a number of parents and gang members reportedly gathered at the school, creating chaos.

“The South African Police Service was called in. Additional security services have been provided for the school. The school was closed on Thursday and will remain closed on Friday, in the interest of teacher and learner safety.”

The attack could be gang related.
