Sibanye Gold sets aside R1.1bn for possible settlement

A class action suit, mostly relating to the fatal lung disease silicosis, was filed on behalf of miners in 2012.

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's Sibanye Gold said on Thursday it would set aside R1.1 billion for a possible settlement with miners who contracted lung diseases at work.

A class action suit, mostly relating to the fatal lung disease silicosis, was filed on behalf of miners in 2012.

Mining companies Gold Fields and Anglo American have already set aside more than $130 million between them for a possible settlement.
