Mkhize: Process to unite ANC must be inclusive
Earlier this week the Mpumalanga and Limpopo ANC leadership said it would be ideal for the elective conference to unite the party behind one candidate.
JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) treasurer Zweli Mkhize has told Eyewitness News that any process aimed at creating a situation where the ANC’s leadership conference results in an uncontested candidate would have to include everyone and be legitimate.
Earlier this week, the Mpumalanga and Limpopo ANC leadership said it would be ideal for the elective conference to unite the party behind one candidate.
It has been suggested that Mkhize could be a compromise candidate if the party were to decide against an election between Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.
Mkhize says that any process aimed at uniting the ANC would have to include everybody.
“At the end of the day, you need to remove the toxicity. In the end, we need to know how to ensure that everyone feels part of the process.”
But Mkhize wouldn’t be drawn on whether he would be available, saying that the ANC has many good leaders who are available.
He adds that the right leader will be chosen if the correct processes are followed.
