‘Bathabile Dlamini stands against any form of abuse towards women’
Speaking at a dialogue at Constitution Hill regarding gender based violence Dlamini said she was not defending Manana.
JOHANNESBURG – Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini says no one implicated in abusing a woman must be let off the hook just because their victim has not been killed.
Dlamini was responding to comments she made to the Sunday Times relating to deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana assaulting a Johannesburg woman in a nightclub earlier this month.
She was quoted as saying that Manana should not be removed from his post because other leaders in the African National Congress (ANC) had done worse things than hitting a woman.
Speaking at a dialogue at Constitution Hill regarding gender based violence, Dlamini said she was not defending Manana.
“Bathabile Dlamini, Minister of Social Development, stands against any form of abuse towards women. Our country is plagued by men that exert their physical or verbal abuse to the point where they kill women.”
