CAPE TOWN - Consumers are expected to feel the pinch at the petrol pump from next month.

The Automobile Association says a hefty increase could be in store following a weaker performing rand and a hike in the price of oil.

The association's Layton Beard said: “Petrol is expected to climb by a hefty 63 cents a litre, diesel by 57 cents. And illuminating paraffin by 58 cents. And it’s the increase in illuminating paraffin, in particular, we believe that will have a strong negative effect on households that rely on this fuel for cooking, lighting and heating.”
