CAPE TOWN – Deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkongi says that at least 20 people have been killed in gang related incidents in Avian Park in Worcester since the start of this year.

Mkongi visited the area on Monday.

Earlier this year, deadly gang violence erupted in the Avian Park community.

Mkongi says that he’s instructed police to beef up patrols and to go after gang kingpins.

“I’m very concerned because these criminals, you can see fear in the faces of our people, especially elders and older people. If you go there, you find that the windows... people are putting up zinc and cardboard... because these people [the criminals] just throw petrol bombs in the houses of the people.”
