‘Dlamini-Zuma will be SA’s first woman president’
The African National Congress Women’s League says it will be a woman who will unite the party and the country.
GERMISTON – African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) President Bathabile Dlamini says there should be no confusion about who the league supports to be the party’s next president in a race that now has at least three potential female contenders.
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Baleka Mbete and Lindiwe Sisulu have been endorsed by different structures within the ruling party.
But Dlamini-Zuma is the only presidential hopeful to receive the full backing of the Women’s League ahead of the December elective conference.
The Women’s League says it will be a woman who will unite the party and the country.
The ANCWL says women of the organisation must not sell out the party during the 2019 national elections.
Dlamini and Dlamini-Zuma are the keynote speakers at the organisation's umembeso and prayer gathering against women and children abuse in Ekurhuleni.
Hundreds of women dressed in their green and black ANC Women's League attire have gathered at the Germiston stadium to hear Dlamini-Zuma and Bathabile Dlamini speak.
Dlamini says the day is about reviving the struggle for women’s emancipation.
She says the Women’s League has a firm instruction.
“Comrade Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is the president of the ANC come December conference.”
Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina also took the podium, he says people who say Dlamini-Zuma is linked to the controversial Gupta family are lying.
