CAPE TOWN - The situation in the Joe Slovo informal settlement, near Milnerton, is calm on Saturday afternoon following overnight protests.

A MyCiti bus was set alight during the demonstrations.

Law enforcement officials say they will continue monitoring the area.

Cape Town councillor JP Smith says it’s unclear why they were protesting.

“Police have continued to monitor the incident. The situation is quite now although significant damage was done to the bus stations as well as one of the buses.

“It’s an extremely unfortunate incident with very selfish protesters, damaging infrastructures that are needed by other persons daily.”
