DA ‘ready’ to take on ANC at polls

DA leaders say the ANC may have won in the motion vying for Zuma's removal, but they are certain the ruling party has lost the confidence of the country.

CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it's ready to take on the African National Congress (ANC) at the polls.

Following the failed no confidence motion in President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday, the opposition party will on Thursday table another motion to have Parliament dissolved.

DA leaders say the ANC may have won in the motion vying for Zuma's removal, but they are certain the ruling party has lost the confidence of the country.

The DA is seeking the disbandment of Parliament and for an earlier election to be called Under Section 50 of the Constitution.

Party leader Mmusi Maimane says the electorate should decide on government's future.

“We call on those who are within the ANC, who are against corruption, looting and state capture, to vote in support of our motion. Ultimately, the issues about realigning our politics in South Africa… we can’t sustain the challenge of the politics of our patronage.”

He admits the decision might pose some challenges.

“In this particular election… because it would be of a national nature, we believe that we’d be able to supply a voters’ roll that could pass the master for these particular elections.”

Party officials say they'll ensure this motion is debated and voted on a soon as possible.
