JOHANNESBURG - The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding an attack by pit bulls on three children in Atteridgeville on Sunday.

The children are admitted to the Kalafong Hospital.

The dogs were apparently left unleashed by their owner and attacked the children while playing on the streets.

The police say the owner of the dogs has been questioned.

The police’s Kay Makhubele says they are now waiting for a medical report from doctors about the state of the children, which would allow the NPA to add charges if any.

“People must keep their dogs close and not let the dogs loose on the street. If they know that they are dangerous they can injure anyone or kill someone.”

Makhubele says it is, however, unacceptable that vicious animals could be left unattended.

He says the police understand that the children remain in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

One of the victims has undergone surgery to his spine, while his liver was also damaged in the attack.
