20 left homeless after fire destroys shacks near Lavender Hill

Cape Town Disaster Risk Management says its office has been activated and officials are assessing the damage.

CAPE TOWN – More than a dozen people have been left homeless after a fire broke out in Cape Town.

Several shacks had caught alight near Lavender Hill this morning.

The fire has been contained and firefighters are busy with mopping up operations.

City Fire and Rescue’s Theo Layne says, “Just after 8:30 pm the City Fire and Rescue Services responded to calls on fires where we had numerous informal structures that were burning. Currently, there are 20 people displaced.”
