PRETORIA - Correctional Services has confirmed that convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius has been taken to hospital after apparently experiencing chest pains.

Pistorius is serving a six-year prison sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Correctional Services’ Logan Maistry says Pistorius was on Thursday morning taken to an outside hospital facility for a medical examination.

He says Pistorius is expected to spend the night at the facility for observation.

While Maistry was unable to provide details about the former athlete’s condition, it’s being reported that he experienced chest pains and struggled to breathe.

Pistorius is being detained at the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in the west of Pretoria.

The State’s appeal against his sentence in which it will argue for a minimum of 15 years behind bars is expected to be heard later this year.
