JOHANNESBURG - Concerns have been raised over growing backlogs at Home Affairs offices due to a lack of work on Saturdays.

The Home Affairs Department says while it’s in talks with unions, offices will be closed again this weekend.

This is the fourth weekend in a row where offices have been closed.

Employees are demanding overtime for working Saturdays while the department says it cannot afford this.

Department spokesperson David Hlabane said: “Proposals have been made by the department and the unions are consulting and we will hear their response.
