amaBhungane’s Brummer: BLF members attacked me
Stefaans Brummer says the harassment of amaBhungane journalists is aimed at distracting them from their investigations into the Gupta family.
JOHANNESBURG - amaBhungane’s Stefaans Brummer has accused Black First Land First (BLF) members of attacking him at the Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday morning.
This follows a scuffle between the two at the investigative unit’s Town Hall meeting in Braamfontein last week, where the group disrupted the event.
In July, the High Court in Johannesburg granted South African Editor's Forum (Sanef) an interdict, ordering members of the BLF to refrain from harassing or intimidating journalists.
“There was an incident at Cape Town International Airport. I don’t want to talk much about it. I’m very concerned that these people are achieving their aim of diverting us from the important work that we’re doing on the Gupta leaks etc.”
However, the BLF’s Lindsay Maasdorp denies the accusations.
“Let me say categorically; I have no problem beating up racists, but I did not bash him. If I had you’d know.”
Editor’s group Sanef and journalists Sam Sole and Ferial Haffajee have applied for action to be taken against BLF leader Andile Mngxitama for breaching the High Court’s interdict.
