CAPE TOWN - Parliament’s Public Service and Administration Committee wants Minister Faith Muthambi to appear before it within the next three weeks to explain expenditure incurred during her budget vote.

A Sunday newspaper reported that she flew down at least 30 family and friends at the cost of the state to attend her budget vote address.

Chairperson of the committee Makhosi Khoza says that the committee had no prior knowledge of this and deems the expenditure to have been unnecessary.

"The matter that was reported is flying against our efforts to consolidate fiscally given the low economic growth that we are going through as a country."

Khoza says Muthambi also needs to come clean on appointments made in her office which are believed to have flouted process.

Three dates have been proposed to Muthambi’s office for her to present supporting documentation to the committee on all the claims.
