MiWay CEO calls for transformation in insurance industry
Rene Otto says five out of six of their board members are white, while only 30% of their senior management is black.
JOHANNESBURG - MiWay CEO Rene Otto says more transformation is needed in the insurance industry.
MiWay came under the spotlight in July when a disgruntled client sent a fake email referring to black clients as baboons.
Otto has admitted that the nine-year-old company doesn’t have enough representation in senior positions in the company.
He says five out of six of their board members are white, while only 30% of their senior management is black.
Otto says they are aware of the lack of representation on the board and he has recommended a change.
“If I had the power to make the appointments, I would ... and we actually have a board meeting on Thursday where we’re going to discuss that. I would say at least half of the board should be black and then a year later that should still improve.”
