Final goodbyes to Ronnie Mamoepa in Pretoria

PRETORIA - Veteran government spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa is being laid to rest at a provincial funeral in Pretoria this morning.

Mamoepa died last Saturday night after complications from a stroke he suffered in June.

The 56-year-old was deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa's spokesperson.

Ministers, premiers and the family of Mamoepa arrived at the St Albans Cathedral in Pretoria.

He was actively involved in the struggle for democracy, serving five years on Robben Island while still a teenager.

Tributes have been conveyed from people in various levels of society with President Jacob Zuma declaring his funeral a special provincial one.
