Public Protector: DA has compromised Molefe investigation
The Public Protector’s office says the DA revealed confidential information.
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is in hot water with the Public Protector for revealing that her office will be investigating the circumstances related to a R30 million pension payout to former Eskom chief executive, Brian Molefe.
Mkhwebane’s spokesperson Cleopatra Mosana says at issue is compromising the investigation.
On Monday, the DA said it was pleased the Public Protector was following up on its complaint because the payout would be a gross abuse of public funds.
But the Public Protector’s office says the DA revealed confidential information.
Spokesperson Cleopatra Mosana said: “It casts aspersions before finality of the matter, hence we are then saying disclosing information compromises the investigation.
The DA’s Natasha Mazzone says she doesn't believe the Public Protector's Act was contravened since the circulated letter was not marked confidential.
