Chinese man claiming close ties with Minister Mahlobo goes 'missing'
Guan Jiang Guang claimed in an Al-Jazeera that he had close ties to Mahlobo & his family saying the minister regularly visited his massage parlour in Nelspruit.
CAPE TOWN – A Chinese man who claims he had a close relationship with State Security Minister David Mahlobo has gone missing.
Guan Jiang Guang, who has apparent links to the rhino horn trade, claimed in an Al-Jazeera documentary aired last year that he had close ties to Mahlobo and his family, saying the minister regularly visited his massage parlour in Nelspruit.
Mahlobo has described the documentary linking him to a rhino poaching syndicate as gutter journalism.
He’s reiterated that he’s willing to cooperate with any investigation into the allegations.
“The Minister of State Security is the complainant on that case. He himself is waiting for progress on the matter despite the challenges that are there,” a ministerial spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says that the investigation has been put on hold.
“The man made the allegations and then disappeared and that’s the reason why you have not as yet heard about progress relevant to that matter.”
