CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town's Metro Police have welcomed community tip-offs which have led to arrests over the weekend.

Mayoral committee member JP Smith says several operations were conducted.

“Metro police confiscated three firearms, a stash of ammunition and various quantities of drugs in the last week. In many of the incidents, the success was the result of tip-offs from the community. We appeal to the community continue blowing the whistle on criminal activities in their areas.”

Smith adds eight motorists were arrested for drunk driving following random tests in Muizenberg, Fish Hoek and Simons Town on Sunday.

“It is advisable for members of the public who have been drinking heavily to avoid driving for quite some time and possibly at least 12 hours as they might still be well over the legal limit and their driver behaviour may still be affected by alcohol.”
