CAPE TOWN - Capetonians have exceeded the daily water consumption target by 143 million litres over the past week.

At the same time, Cape Town's average dam level has edged up only one percentage point.

At 26%, Cape Town's average dam level is more than 20 percentage points lower than what it was at this time last year.

Residents are also still exceeding the daily water consumption target of 500 million litres.

Over the past week, residents used 643 million litres a day, significantly more than what was used the previous week.

With level 4B water restrictions in place, the city wants residents to contain daily water usage to less than 87 litres per person.
