CAPE TOWN - Police are maintaining high visibility in Hout Bay following ongoing protests in the area.

The body of a 19-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his chest on Saturday morning.

Violent demonstrations erupted late Friday evening, with protesters pelting stones and other objects at police.

An African National Congress building in the community was also set alight.

Provincial police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk says: “Protesters barricaded the road, preventing police from entering the area. Community members houses were also set alight, while containers were pushed into the road and set alight by protesters.”
