JOHANNESBURG - Acting SABC chief executive officer James Aguma has resigned from his position.

This emerged during his disciplinary hearing in Sandton on Wednesday morning.

Aguma was suspended from the public broadcaster two months ago for allegedly lying to the interim board about former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Aguma's decision to step down means that the hearing against him has now been terminated with immediate effect.

Chairperson Professor Taki Madima made the announcement after a very short discussion between the defense and the SABC.

"Mr James Aguma will tender his resignation today and in turn the SABC will withdraw all the charges against him."

Aguma is expected to tender his resignation no later than 1pm on Wednesday.
