CAPE TOWN - Bell Pottinger and the Democratic Alliance (DA) have until next week to submit summaries of their cases ahead of a hearing into the British PR firm's conduct in South Africa.

The company is accused of using racially divisive tactics to discredit Gupta family critics and those of President Jacob Zuma.

The UK's Public Relations and Communications Association has decided to investigate a complaint against the firm lodged by the DA.

Bell Pottinger will appear before the PRCA's professional practices committee on 18 August.

The DA's Marshalle Frederiks says: “The DA and Bell Pottinger are required to submit summaries of cases within 10 working days.”

Meanwhile, South African-based civil society organisations Section27, Save SA and the Helen Suzman Foundation want to make submissions too.

The Helen Suzman Foundation's Anton van Dalsen says that they're hoping to give the hearing some insight into the social context of the actions, as well as its effects on the nation.

“We envisage to make representations to the UK regulatory bodies, once we see the documentation provided.”

They've requested Bell Pottinger hand over all the information related to its dealings with Oakbay.
