JOHANNESBURG - The Social Development Department has refused to answer any questions on the sudden departure of acting Sassa CEO Thokozani Magwaza.

The department’s Mandela Day commemorations are underway at the Walter Sisulu Square in Soweto where Minister Bathabile Dlamini is expected to speak.

Spokesperson for the department Lumka Oliphant says she won’t be answering any questions on Magwaza’s departure.

“Don’t even try to push me into that, we’re not going to talk about him.”

The former Sassa CEO has clashed with Minister Dlamini recently over the Sassa payment scandal, the minister's lucrative work streams and his attempts to get the Post Office to take over the social grant payments.

Magwaza has reportedly been receiving death threats and was said to be under pressure to accept an exit package.
