Rescue teams continue search for missing crew in St Francis Bay
The National Sea Rescue Institute spent Sunday conducting an extensive sea air and shoreline search for the men.
CAPE TOWN – Police and a dive unit will continue their search and recovery operation for the missing crew of a fishing boat in St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape at first light on Monday morning.
Eight crew members went missing after their fishing boat capsized on Sunday. One crew member died and 7 others survived the incident. Several of them have been hospitalised.
The National Sea Rescue Institute spent Sunday conducting an extensive sea air and shoreline search for the missing men.
Police divers were able to breach the hull of the boat using cutting tools but no crew members were found inside.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says the operation will be intensified if need be.
"A police dive unit and local police will continue with an ongoing search and recovery operation. We were able to breach the hull of the vessel, using cutting equipment but no sign of the missing crew were found inside."
