Outa urges govt to protect Khoza & Magwaza following death threats
According to phone app, True Caller, the number of the person threatening to kill Khoza is registered under the Black First Land First movement.
JOHANNESBURG – The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has described the death threats made against outspoken African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Makhosi Khoza and South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) CEO Thokozani Magwaza as despicable and undemocratic.
Khoza is under fire from within the ANC for publicly backing a secret ballot when MPs vote on the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma next month.
She recently posted on her Facebook page a WhatsApp message telling her she has 21 days to live.
At the same time, it’s being reported that Magwaza’s life may also be in danger. He’s allegedly been offered money to leave office.
According to a phone app, True Caller, the number of the person threatening to kill Khoza is registered under the Black First Land First movement.
Khoza posted a screen grab of the message saying “this is what I go through every day”.
Outa’s Wayne Duvenage says they view these threats against two civil servants seriously.
“We believe that the government should be stepping up and giving them all the protection they require.”
Meanwhile, Magwaza is due to testify against Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini in a public enquiry into her role in the Sassa payment scandal.
