JOHANNESBURG – The Home Affairs Department says it remains confident that negotiations with labour unions will bear fruits soon.

The department’s offices have been closed during weekends for several weeks now after workers went on a strike over weekend shifts.

The workers are demanding they be paid for working on weekends.

The department’s Bongiwe Gambu says, “We’re hopeful that in due course we’ll have a positive answer for the public of South Africa and we remain hopeful that both parties remain committed to resolving the deadlock.”
