WC social development probes baby’s death at Hout Bay crèche
Eleven-month old aby Israel Williams died at an unregistered Hangberg day care facility earlier this week.
CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape social development department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 11-month old baby at a Hout Bay crèche.
It's still unclear what led to the death of baby Israel Williams who passed away at a Hangberg day care facility earlier this week.
The police are investigating his death.
The department's Esther Lewis says the social development department is also conducting its own investigations.
“Our department was informed about the death of the child. We then arranged, with the principal, to do a site inspection. Meanwhile, the principal has informed us that he closed the crèche temporarily. We have instructed them to keep it closed until further notice.”
Lewis says the creche is unregistered.
“Our officials have been working with people at the crèche to try and get them up to the proper norms and standards so that they could become registered – that was since last year.”
