Young people picket outside Mandela Children’s Fund offices
The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund says it's apparent that safety is of grave concern, even to the children.
JOHANNESBURG - About 100 young people picketed outside the offices of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in Johannesburg to raise awareness on child safety and protection.
With just four days to go until Mandela Day, the fund says it will continue to honour the former president by celebrating children on his birthday.
The fund's CEO Sibongile Mkhabela says it's apparent that safety is of grave concern, even to the children.
"Safety is very important because when you look at the number of children who have been killed, it’s unbearable.
"Children are not talking about what they want to be [when they grow up], they’re saying they want to be safe, they don’t want to be raped and they want to go to school.”
