Union gears up for strike at national parks
Workers affiliated to Hospersa are demanding a 9% increase.
JOHANNESBURG - A strike is looming at all of the county's national parks over salaries following a stalemate in negotiations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
Workers affiliated to the Health & other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) are demanding a 9% increase for 2018, while SanParks is offering 6%.
The strike is set to affect operations at all 21 parks managed by SanParks across the country.
The union's Noel Desfontaines says they’ve been left with no choice but to strike.
“We need to finalise picket rules. Our legal team is busy with that right now. We hope to give members 48 hours.”
