Mbeki: SA needs to be more innovative in growing the economy

Thabo Mbeki says economic confidence can only be restored if the corporate sector and those in political power work together.

JOHANNESBURG - Former President Thabo Mbeki says there's a disconnection between the government and the private sector which has led to the lack of confidence in the country economic growth.

Mbeki is having a conversation with the CEO of the MSG Afrika Group Given Mkhari on Thursday evening.

He says confidence in the economy can only be restored if both the corporate sector and those in political power work together.

Mbeki says there needs to be more innovative ideas to grow the country's economy.

“You can’t produce a product in 2017, in the modern world, using technology that was used in 2000. It’s overtaken by the development of technology, so you need to invest in new technology and do new research in order to catch up with the global market.”
