Suicide bombers kill 17 in northeast Nigeria's Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI - Suicide bombers killed 17 people and injured 21 in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, the police commissioner of Borno state said on Wednesday.

The blasts struck four areas in the city, which is the capital of Borno, the state worst affected by the eight-year-old insurgency by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

A number of suicide bomb attacks by suspected members of the jihadist group have taken place in the capital of Borno state and its environs in the last few weeks, including blasts that killed nine people on 26 June, 12 people on 19 June and a 7 June raid which left 14 dead.
