ABUJA - The death toll from Tuesday's suicide bombing in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri has risen to 19.

The Borno State Police Commissioner Damian Chukwu, who gave an update at one of the scenes of the blasts, said most of the victims were operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).

The latest attack was directed at the Civilian JTF who are mainly locals working with the Nigerian military providing soldiers with intelligence and other background support.

Spokesman of the Civilian JTF Danbatta Bello said one of the four suicide bombers, a teenage girl, gained access to the sandbag post of the group where she detonated explosives on her body - killing three of their members.

A total of twelve Civilian JTF were killed in the attacks

Borno State Police Commissioner Damian Chukwu said the seven civilian residents who died were killed by another suicide bomber when they gathered to mourn the death of the 12 Civilian JTF operatives.
