JOHANNESBURG - The South African Taxi Council has assured South Africans that a planned mass strike set for Wednesday has been suspended for now.

The announcement was made a short while ago at a media briefing held by the council and the transport ministry.

The nationwide strike was meant to highlight a number of grievances - including subsidies, operating licenses and access to finance.

Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi said, “Both government and Santaco agreed to work together to address challenges the the taxi industry continues to experience on a daily basis.”
