CAPE TOWN - Provincial Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo says that part of the Manenberg rejuvenation project includes the establishment of a regional healthcare facility for the area.

On the sidelines of an unannounced site visit to the Karl Bremer Hospital on Wednesday, Mbombo reiterated the need to roll-out specialist clinical services in the community.

“Previously, GF Jooste Hospital did not have a men’s health section or a paediatric ward. We need specialists in this area, as well as students to go there.”

Manenberg's GF Jooste Hospital was shut down in 2014.

The Karl Bremer Hospital is situated on the border of Cape Town's northern suburbs of Bellville and Parow.

It has a 310-bed capacity and offers clinical services, including emergency care, paediatrics and psychiatry.

Mbombo says that snap visits like these are important to keep standards high.

The department has a budget of R21.7 billion for the current financial year, of which Karl Bremer Hospital enjoys R365.8 million to run the facility.
