CAPE TOWN - A campaign has been started to raise funds for a 3-year-old Athlone girl and her grandfather who survived being mauled by a neighbour's dogs.

The money raised will be used to pay for a series of surgeries Emma Murphy needs to undergo.

The child and her grandfather Aubrey Murphy sustained severe injuries during the dog attack at their home last month.

Paula Pinkham, the founder of The Sunshine and Superhero Fund for Emma, says the girl is recovering well and is undergoing a series of procedures.

Her grandfather remains in hospital following the dog attack.

Pinkham says the neighbour's dogs have been removed.

“The dogs have been removed from the property. They are at the SPCA and nothing has been done. At the moment they are not willing to take it any further or enter any discussions. It will be something that is probably dealt with privately.”

She's appealing to the public to continue to donate towards the campaign that will cater for Emma's medical care.
