Mkhize: Zuma suggestion to amend ANC constitution not final
ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize says the party will discuss President Jacob Zuma's suggestion to amend the party's constitution to allow for two deputy presidents.
JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize says the party will discuss President Jacob Zuma's suggestion to amend the party's constitution to allow for two deputy presidents.
Mkhize says this was only a suggestion and not a final decision.
Zuma raised the matter during the party's national policy conference in Nasrec which ended in on Wednesday.
He called on branches to discuss the proposal so a resolution can be adopted at the party's national elective conference in December.
Mkhize says the matter was never discussed at length before Zuma mentioned it on Wednesday.
“When this point was raised at the closing of the conference, the president made it clear that he is trying to persuade everyone. Therefore, it needs to be discussed. We’ve not really applied our minds properly on the matter.”
