Al-Qaeda releases video of foreign hostages including Stephen McGowan

Local media is reporting the 16 minute, 50-second video by Nusrat al-Islam was released on telegram late last night.

JOHANNESBURG – Al-Qaeda’s Mali branch has released a proof-of-life video of six foreign hostages, which reportedly includes South African Stephen McGowan.

Local media is reporting the 16 minute, 50-second video by Nusrat al-Islam was released on telegram late last night.

McGowan was abducted by al-Qaeda militants in 2011 along with Swiss national Johan Gustafson.

The Swede was released earlier this week raising concerns about McGowan’s fate.

Humanitarian NGO the Gift of the Givers has been working to bring the South African home.
