FIRST ON EWN: Gupta harassment of SA journos orchestrated from India
'Daily Maverick' linked a surveillance report of former 'Business Day' editor Peter Bruce to a former Gupta employee who now lives and works in India.
PRETORIA – Eyewitness News has obtained further evidence which shows that the campaign to harass and malign South Africa journalists and editors is being orchestrated from India.
Last week, the Daily Maverick linked a surveillance report of former Business Day Editor Peter Bruce to a former Gupta employee who now lives and works in that country.
Eyewitness News further established that the former employee is, in fact, a relative of the controversial family and lived at their Saxonworld compound when he worked for them.
The website wmcleaks.com went live several weeks ago and as its name suggests is a direct pushback against the damning series of Gupta leaks reports.
An Eyewitness News source sent an IP phishing link to the administrator of the wmcleaks Facebook page.
Whoever had access to that account clicked the link, which then logged the IP address.
A search of that IP address traced it back to an Indian-based internet service provider with the user based in New Delhi.
This corroborates information obtained in a Daily Maverick investigation which tracked the author of a surveillance report not only to India but a former Gupta employee based in New Delhi.
The Guptas, through their local representative Gary Naidoo and attorney Gert van der Merwe, have not responded to questions.
