Motshekga: Joburg prison scandal goes against mandate of rehabilitation
On Monday, it emerged that a Youth Day celebration at the facility also known as Sun City included scantily clad women entertaining convicts.
JOHANNESBURRG - Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services Mathole Motshekga says the Youth Day scandal at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre goes against the mandate of rehabilitation.
On Monday, it emerged that a Youth Day celebration at the facility also known as Suncity included scantily clad women entertaining convicts.
Explicit photos of three women dressed in knee-high boots and lingerie circulated on social media this week.
Motshekga says what happened at the correctional centre has embarrassed the Correctional Services system and also casts doubt on its officials.
Motshekga says the country's fading moral compass was exposed.
In one of the images that have been circulating on social media, two women appear to be undressing one of the inmates while prison warders look on.
The Correctional Services Department says an investigation is underway and at least 13 officials face suspension.
