KZN EFF lays charge against cop after altercation with activist Khanyile
Khanyile bumped into one of the policemen who arrested him and an altercation broke out when the officer threatened to make sure Khanyile goes back to jail.
DURBAN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) student command in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has laid a charge of assault and intimidation against one of the police officers who arrested activist Bonginkosi Khanyile.
The student activist was arrested during a fees must fall protest.
He was released in March, having spent six months in prison after being denied bail three times.
His matter was taken to the Constitutional Court, which set the activist free on R250 bail.
The EFF in KZN says Khanyile recently bumped into one of the policemen who arrested him.
It says an altercation broke out between the two when the officer threatened to make sure Khanyile goes back to jail.
KZN EFF student command chair Philani Nduli said: “We want him to face the music so that we can make an example and send a strong message even to other police officers across the country that we are no longer in the era of apartheid where you can just harass and victimise activists and nothing happens to you.”
